The Foundation was a dream that became reality over 20 years ago when David learned of a little girl from his home town who was in a Los Angeles intensive care unit awaiting a life saving transplant. His commitment to children's advocacy began with the price of one airline ticket, making one little wish happen, and has since grown to raising millions of dollars to assist families of children in need of organ transplants as the Foundation expands across Canada. David has also lent his musical skills to over 300 charitable events and organizations. In 2006, David was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Dr. James S. Popkin is a consultant paediatrician practicing in Victoria B.C. with appointments to UBC and UVic. On the Board of the Foster Foundation from the outset over twenty years ago, he has witnessed the growth of the organization through the compassion and hard work of David Foster and his family (his natural and adopted community members). Providing support to families across Canada when children need transplants and Governments cannot pay for travel and living expenses is the goal and can be accomplished with teamwork and contacts. Improving communication between parents, caregivers, doctors and hospitals in the different cities across North America involved for each child is one of our current challenges.
