The David Foster Foundation is dedicated to two chief goals; to provide financial assistance for non-medical expenses, which are not otherwise covered by governmental agencies, to families in Canada with children who are in need of major organ transplants, and to raise public awareness regarding organ donation.

Established in 1986 and last year celebrated its 20th Anniversary, The David Foster Foundation has now assisted 345 families with children in need of major organ transplants. With the success of last year's 'David Foster and Friends' fund raising Gala Event, the David Foster Foundation now also begins its endowment fund to ensure the Foundation exists as a David Foster legacy, and to continue to provide financial and emotional support to the families of Canadian children who are in need of life saving organ transplants. This year, we look forward to expanding our support to assist even more families across Canada.

We are a last resort organization, helping those who have no other means of financial support to cover the non-medical expenses that arise when a child needs to be sent to Vancouver or out of province for assessment and transplant surgery. Those expenses cover a broad spectrum of needs that are individual to each family. Sometimes it is the need to look after mortgage or rent payments for the months the family will be away or to cover the cost of daycare for siblings left behind while parents are with their sick child. Whatever the need, the David Foster Foundation has always been there to help ease the financial burden the family must face.

Every family the Foundation has helped must endure a myriad of emotions from fear to frustration. Sometimes the outcome is tragic; we don't always win. The pain of losing a child is unimaginable to most of us and even more heartbreaking if it happens after months of being away from home. That reality is unbearable but fortunately transplant operations are overwhelmingly successful!

It's not only the children and their families who win, by having 'more tomorrows' but all of us who have helped to make it happen. We are able to share the joy of success not only when we get the call that the surgery is over and "my baby is doing great!", but every time we get a letter, a Christmas card, a picture or a thank you from a very grateful family.
